Organize Your Sales Life

Organize Your Sales Life

We're approaching the end of the year, when things start to get hectic.

And organization isn’t just about keeping track of to-dos—it’s about freeing up mental space for what actually drives sales success: strategy, insight, and productivity.

Writing everything down, whether digitally or on paper, can been one of the most impactful habits.

The real edge in sales comes from the little things—attention to detail, timely action, and professionalism.

Organizing Your Time and Schedule

By John R McCarthy

What the Idea Is

Organization of your time and schedule is essential.

Why It Is Valuable

Organization saves your brain for deep cerebral contemplation, strategy, productivity, etc., that are essential to track and act on in a timely manner. Do not waste your capabilities trying to remember mundane or minuscule tasks.

How It Works

Thirty years ago, while attending an EMC training and education sales meeting, I happened to fill one of my optional tracks by walking into a Franklin Daily Planner meeting; it changed my professional career. The concept was simple: write everything down. Capture life’s details, both professional and personal, in your planner in a notes or reminder section. Keep these records to review and refer to over time as needed. Obviously, over my career, Franklin Daily Planners have been replaced with digital tools, but I still utilize a mix of 80/20 digital to written.

Thoughts

Organization = efficiency = productivity = effective time utilization. Time is the critical element. You can’t create more hours in a day or more days in a week, but you can improve what you do with your time.

I’m not impressed with hard workers; I am impressed with smart workers.

There is no one silver bullet. It’s the little things that add up to success. The glue—the accelerator of building sales success—includes attention to detail, timeliness, urgency, and professionalism; the need to react with accuracy is critical.
