Our new 40,000-square-foot panel level organic substrate factory, currently under construction, is one of the first of its kind in the US. The facility will expand the capacity of the Michigan technology ecosystem and catalyze the advancement of organic substrate technology, — the foundation for next-gen technology in advanced radar, communications, high speed computing and artificial intelligence. With this expansion, we couldn't have picked a better partner than global technology leader KLA to help establish IC substrate manufacturing here in the US. Watch the full interview with our CTO, Dr. Meredith LaBeau, and Chet Lenox of KLA, hosted by Steve Arwood, with InvestUP: https://bit.ly/3YbP5b1 #KLA #CEC #PCB #semiconductors #AmericanElectronics #AmericanManufacturing #OrganicSubstrates Michigan Economic Development Corporation

Four years ago, we were called upon to expand the domestic manufacturing of organic substrates, the foundation of semiconductor packaging and one of the most critical factors in chip and system performance. We turned to longtime partner and global technology leader KLA Corporation to help us answer that call. Together we’re establishing IC substrate manufacturing here at home. Keeping electronics manufacturing onshore is both an economic advantage and a matter of national security. With the right partnerships, it can be done. Together, Calumet Electronics and KLA Corporation are pioneering organic substrate technology — the foundation of semiconductor packaging — in the US. This new collaboration will help strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities for industrial and commercial applications. After working together for two decades, we knew KLA was the right partner to develop this groundbreaking work and take our successful prototypes to the next level. Critical to protecting American electronics, this funding will help bolster the industry's R&D efforts and support the semiconductor supply chain by awarding small businesses. Much more to come, and we're excited to be a part of it all. #CHIPSAct #AmericanElectronics #PCB
SEMI applauds the CHIPS Research and Development Office’s announcement of the first award of nearly $5 million to 17 small businesses across nine states under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. The SBIR Phase I awards will fund research projects to explore the technical merit or feasibility of an innovative idea or technology for developing a viable product or service for introduction in the commercial microelectronics marketplace. Congratulations to SEMI member Laser Thermal for their selection! The award-winning projects were competitively selected from proposals submitted in response to a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) on multiple topics on research projects for critically needed measurement services, tools, and instrumentation; innovative manufacturing metrologies; novel assurance and provenance technologies and advanced metrology R&D testbeds to help strengthen the U.S. semiconductor industry.?Thanks to the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and CHIPS for America for their efforts to bolster the semiconductor supply chain.
