Organic Farm Meets Airbnb
Todd and Suzy live a couple of towns away from us in Vermont, where six years ago they turned two decent ideas into one great opportunity.
Before they met, Todd had quit his job as an attorney and spent a few years working on farms to learn that trade. Suzy was an elementary school teacher who always dreamed of working on a farm.
One thing led to another, and they bought a 60-acre property at the top of a hill, one with sweeping views of the countryside. They had two very specific ideas: to launch an organic farm that also included five modern "cabins" that they would rent via Airbnb.
As you probably know, farming can be a tough way to make a living. In a similar manner, renting one property on Airbnb can take a lot of time without generating much income. But Todd and Suzy recognized that five cabins could generate enough income to make the farm more viable. Even better, the farm represented a unique lodging option for families who want to show their children where food actually comes from.
Plus, it's fun.
Above you see the natural playground—complete with "caves"—that is in between the cabins and the pastures.
Fat Sheep Farm & Cabins is a wonderful example of how two people with a couple of decent ideas can combine them in a very powerful way. Todd says their path hasn't always been easy, but together they have created a refuge that others love to visit.
If this sounds appealing, plan ahead. The cabins are booked months ahead of time. And be sure to try the cheese they make on the farm.

2 年Oh, I love this so much Bruce Kasanoff - Thank you for sharing. You, and your creative friends, have given me a great idea for our family family in north Florida. I have had a long-time, God-given vision for an autism camp on our farm, but having a dual-purpose to open the cabins up as AirB&Bs during non-camp weeks might actually make it much more possible. Fat Sheep Farm & Cabins - What a beautiful dream come true!

2 年Oh. My. Gosh! I LOOOVE this idea and concept! Vermont is beautiful and still so largely unpopulated and rural in most areas around the state, which is perfect for people like me who want to move away from all of the woes, stresses, and hassles (terrible gridlock traffic and increasing crime levels!) that city living brings. I LOVE animals and am ridiculously passionate about regenerative, sustainable farming too. For *YEARS* I've dreamed of moving to Vermont (I visit my BFF in NH every few years), buying a home with a few acres, and becoming a full-time homesteader with my own working farm, organic garden, and simple, modest B&B-like living quarters for vacationing guests. Unfortunately it takes a whole lotta dinero to acquire and/or build this dreamscape, which is a huge financial risk and investment. It's not impossible but is it "practical" for a 1-income household like mine (and I don't have an attorney's salary or a spouse ??) For now, I guess I'll live vicariously through Fat Sheep Farms. And just keep dreaming ;-P
