Not Ordinary

Ordinary describes something that is commonplace, standard… nothing special. What we do on a daily basis is not ordinary.

Convincing, basically strangers, to trust us with their livelihood isn't ordinary.

Being tasked to come up with a campaign that is timely in a matter of days… isn't ordinary.

Then piling on the fact that the campaign is rooted in a core branding message with the flexibility of showing specific services and products AND has the ability to be scaled across large format, mobile, social, and any other media formats… all done by an Art Director/Designer who's also doing that exact same thing for five other clients simultaneously… is not ordinary.

… It's freaking extraordinary!

Over the course of an hour, in any market, on any day, the collaboration that is taking place via teams, text, email, phone call… whatever is 100% extraordinary. Not just because it's people stopping what they're doing to help their peer push that idea across the finish line (which in itself is amazing), but because of the openness to a good idea coming from anywhere at any hour… the humility and sincere desire to make the design they're working on the best it can be.

Above is my point… where the design started and the beginnings of an idea, then 45 replies back and forth within the South region and BOOM you get to the final campaign literally within an hour from 8:39 am - 9:29 am. But that only happens when we are not concerned about OUR idea being the best, but simply the best idea being reached.

Why is this so important? 

Why must we not settle for that commonplace, mediocre approach where we're just "doing what the client wants"?

Because that collaboration above shows how an idea rooted in a basic understanding of a client can go from "ordinary" to a partnership between creative and sales (in this case Jarrod and Jon in Orlando) and inject our client with a renewed excitement about what they do… open a door to something they didn't know could be done and now the Solar Bears campaign is posting TODAY!

But again… NONE of that happens if we just go about our day trying to do it alone.

Nothing extraordinary happens when we don't reach out to those around us and trust. 

The above shuttle wrap (interior and exterior) for JLO Beauty supply landed on Valerie Vespa and Kenny Pober's lap last Friday. The clients (Flowcode and JLO Beauty) were up against an insane timeline with a very labor intensive design for a medium they've never had to work on. 

Because of the confidence and trust in the /STUDIOS, because of a core understanding/conversation of the task at hand, we (Tim WasickiSarah Barcelos, and I) were able to recreate assets and knock it out in two days… working remotely, constantly pushing each other, questioning if there's a better way to design or convey, and putting our egos to the side… sales, creative, and Adam Kiviat in production all just pushing each other to do the best damn job possible.

I'm constantly amazed and proud of the people I work with and those in this industry, because ordinary just isn't something we do.
