Order Picking Consolidation: A way to Achieve Economies of Scale

Hi Everyone,

Next Thursday, Feb 9 at 8:00 am EST, I'll be sharing, via email, the details of our?"Engineering & Design Study"?journey, which allowed our beauty product client to consolidate numerous distribution facilities into a single 485,000 square feet warehouse in Piscataway, NJ.

Beyond the normal concerns of cost-effectively shipping accurate orders on time, our client's unique dilemma was how to do so for three distinct customers:

1. Big box retailers - full pallet cases
2. Independent supply stores - full and broken cases
3. Individual online shoppers - eaches/piece-picking

This was a most adventurous journey with lots of learning (makeup lessons and design layouts), brainstorming, laughter, headaches, and everything between.
