There are various ways each of us can help stop violence against women (VAW), depending on who you are - parent, male, female, victim, or perpetrator. The family is where it should begin. As a parent, teach your girl child to be strong and courageous and outspoken so she is better equipped to face the challenges ahead and to speak out when the need arises. Teach the boy child to love and respect his peers irrespective of their gender. Love and Treat your children as equal, no gender discrimination, then they will imbibe that attitude as they grow up.
All of us, male and female should speak up against VAW. Lackadaisical attitude will only embolden the perpetrators. Support and encourage the victims instead of being judgemental. If you can do nothing to stop an ongoing violence, call the appropriate authorities. The victim need not feel ashamed, it is better to speak out and seek help. Take some positive actions to bring the perpetrator to book. Condoning VAW will not make it go away, often times, it only gets worse. As for the perpetrator, there is only one course of action - STOP THE VIOLENCE.
Of course we need to stop violence against anyone without being gender biased. The moment we say we need to stop violence against women we need to protect them etc we make them feel week and help less. I think first of all it should start from mindset change, not of Men but of women first. If a girl change her mindset that she is capable enough to handle her issues off course it will reflect in her overall personality and aura. At least I have experienced it and then off course there are enough laws also to support her. Worst part here is population of those women who misuse the law to fulfil their greedy desire, and trust me they are good in numbers and keep increasing. Classic examples are women who acclaimed domestic violence in Matrimonial issues.
If you are talking about the condition of women in general then yes off course it’s a matter of concern for each one of us who belongs to this society. The way people have started behaving in recent years it’s so horrible, although a lot of efforts are put in by govt ( at least news channels says so) but i think more than efforts from their end it requires a big time change in people’s mentality. The alternate way is high punishments so that people get really scared before doing any inappropriate behavior with any woman, again that was in general. Now if you mean the condition of women in relationships (for eg husband / wife etc) then i don’t think it’s completely real, the situation is equally bad for men and women.
Trust me ,women shows equal violence and at times even more than a man specially in matrimonial cases. It’s because they think and they know that law is there to support, help and save them from any action. Again i am saying it’s not any individual’s story but it’s fact, based on a lot of surveys and researches done by different NGO’s. Which shows most of the time complaints filed by women against a man (specially in matrimonial cases where maximum violence occur as per women) is fake and done with an Ego and greed. And that’s how people start doubting the complaints of genuine victims as well, that’s why i said it requires a complete change in the way of thinking.

My belief is that when a woman get this confidence that she is capable enough to take care of herself can protect herself then half of the crime will stop eventually. Remember “mostly ghosts are visible to the people who are weak by heart not by eyes”. These insane unknown people usually target those women who they know will be threatened easily. One tight slap can change everything. Much of the violence is based on disparity of physical power, that is, women are less able to fight. Arming and training women would help. Women need to learn to sense and avoid danger, too. When you get that tingly feeling that something is wrong-it is. Get out of that situation. And, if a man is violent towards you once, take legal action and leave him. Violence tends to escalate, next time will be worse.
As much as it pains me to write this, I have to say that I don’t think violence against women can be completely stopped. Let us look at this objectively. Behind any crime, there is a mentality. Be it rape/ domestic abuse/ physical abuse/murder. The motive might be different but the common psychology is to establish dominance and control. I will try to answer this question by considering the Indian scenario considering the rape epidemic we have been experiencing. We would think at first that the motive for Rape is pure lust. But like a virus that jumps the species barrier, this virus has jumped age groups. Because unless you are a seriously sick person, you can’t have lustful thoughts while looking at kids. So now we have two motives for rape -Lust and Pedophilia.
So Rape now has 3 motives - Lust - We have a thriving business in UP that survives solely on distribution of Rape videos to satisfy the sick fantasy of some low lives. The price of these videos being from Rs.50- 500 depending on the length of the video. So I guess the Lust motive just got a monetary branch to it.
Pedophilia- Settle scores - Rape is no longer a rape. It is about religion. Tomorrow someone might say that the political party is making such rape cases happen to show people that women are not safe under the government rule.
So now rape has 4 motives-Lust, Pedophilia, Settle scores and Political. My thinking for this answer ends here. It is really hard to find out measures to stop violence against women when the crime is driven by such motives and people is power. Unless the mentality changes, This needs to stop any how!!I say that it won’t stop but I pray that I am proven wrong. I want to be proved wrong here. Give me a genuine reason to be 100% supportive of this question, when the law enforcement rarely cares about men being abused? Take a look at the ‘Domestic Violence Wheel’. Women violate the non-physical aspects of the wheel. More often, than society is willing to believe. So, What about stopping violence against men, or does that even matter!!!
