Executive Roundtable: Oracle Modernization is a Marathon, Not a Sprint

As competitive pressures and customer expectations rise in the uncertain economic outlook, boards and senior executives are revisiting technology modernization and business transformation strategies. All major IT investments – including those in enterprise applications – are being analyzed to ensure high-performance levels as increasingly complicated heterogeneous infrastructures are embraced. When it comes to modernizing Oracle application management strategies in today's hybrid, multi-cloud environment, the principles that should guide the decision-making process include:

* Establishing a contextual framework that fully rationalizes the cost implications of Oracle operations across on-prem and cloud-based platforms;

* Maximizing enterprise flexibility-through-portability to ensure the agile movement of Oracle workloads across enterprise-owned infrastructures and IaaS, PaaS and SaaS environments; and

* Optimizing the integration of the heterogeneous enterprise compute environment to provide complete visibility and cross-platform management of mission-critical Oracle applications.

These were among the areas of consensus that emerged from an executive roundtable on Oracle modernization strategies held by CIO.com and co-hosted by Doug Bloom and Francois Martin of IBM .?Read on by clicking here .

Aligning Around The Customer Will Turbocharge Companies’ Growth Engines, says Forrester

Firms with high levels of alignment across customer-facing functions report 2.4x higher revenue growth and 2x higher growth in profitability than those without alignment. According to Forrester’s customer-obsessed growth engine research, outdated short-term growth strategies that focus on extracting value from customers no longer work. Dramatic changes in buyers’ behavior, evolving business models, and technology advances mandate a shift in how companies design their strategies and operate their organizations.

"Customer-obsessed companies leverage technology to amp up their growth engine. Firms that have reset their tech strategy to be customer-obsessed see 2.5x revenue growth than those that don’t. Customer-obsessed companies make customer value the North Star of technology planning to deliver change at the pace of the business and the buyer. This requires business and functional leaders to work together with their technology counterparts to align on priorities of customer-facing teams. Achieving internal alignment is much easier when organizations have a common goal,” said Sharyn Leaver , chief research officer at Forrester . Read on by clicking here .

Protiviti Survey, Internal Audit Departments are Focusing on Attracting and Retaining Talent – Especially Tech Talent

The internal audit profession faces stiff competition for talent, especially talent capable of addressing a broadening array of risk topics and well-versed in emerging technologies that can drive the function into the future, according to Protiviti’s 2023 Next-Generation Internal Audit Survey. The survey found that 43% of chief audit executives (CAEs) and senior internal audit leaders report a lack of access to the talent they need. The findings also reveal that internal audit leaders view the ability to 1) recruit qualified candidates and 2) retain talent as their top priorities for the year ahead.

“In a tight labor market, the internal audit function has not been spared in the war for talent, especially with heightening expectations of internal audit functions related to innovation, transformation and other hot topics,” said Andrew Struthers-Kennedy , global leader of Protiviti ’s Internal Audit and Financial Advisory practice. 2023 Is the Moment of Truth for Battery-Electric Vehicles, Says Gartner

Several factors will make 2023 a true test to the resolve of governments and the automotive industry in driving battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) forward, according to Gartner, Inc.

“2023 is the moment of truth to drive full electrification forward,” said Pedro Pacheco , VP Analyst at Gartner . “The spike in electricity prices in Europe make BEV running costs less attractive, some countries, like the U.K., Switzerland and Australia, are starting to introduce EV taxation. In addition, China ended electric vehicle subsidies at the beginning of 2023 and global charging infrastructure still has many coverage gaps and the average quality of service is poor.” Read on by clicking here .
