I recently came across an interesting but debatable topic in Financials Setup and Maintenance.
Everyone who is involved in implementation is aware of copying the configuration across the instances. Is it possible to copy from and configure in the same instance? I thought 'Copy Business Unit Configurations' will bridge the gap. But, it did not.
N: Home > Setup and Maintenance > Tasks > Copy Configurations
This is what Oracle says,
This was tested and following are the conclusions:
- The Business Unit (to be copied) shall be configured manually. Though the Oracle User Guide specifies this can be created in Editing a Staged Configuration, this is not processed successfully if not created manually.
- Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable configurations are copied successfully. The entity / company i.e. primary balancing segment value was changed. The applicability of Cross Validation Rules for the new configurations was not checked for configurations involving account code combination.
- This is applicable for (all) Business Units sharing the same Primary Ledger. In other words, the copy (business unit) configurations cannot be used if a business unit needs to be configured for a different primary ledger(s).
- At present, this configurations is applicable only for selected financial modules. The copy configuration for the remaining financial modules and other streams, to my knowledge, is not available.
- Not able to understand the need for configuring multiple business units for the same primary ledger. The illustrations in Oracle User Guide points to multiple business units of different countries sharing the same US Primary Ledger. As discussed in my earlier post, the configuration process is again grouped by primary ledger and not by business unit which is different from Oracle earlier versions.
