Optimizing your time as a procurement professional ?

Optimizing your time as a procurement professional ?

Procurement teams often find themselves as the glue between production teams, buyers and suppliers-- leaving them with several tasks to manage and streams of communication to monitor. As a result, procurement professionals have reported spending 50-80% of their working time writing emails, updating Excel spreadsheets, consolidating data and dealing with manual entry.

This means that procurement teams have little time left to focus on tasks such as negotiation, new supplier development and long-term procurement strategies for growth.

In order to cut down on time spent performing tedious tasks, it's important to facilitate collaboration between stakeholders and ensure visibility for all parties into procurement metrics. Furthermore, it might be beneficial to look into tools that help automate several manual processes.

Finally, it is important to ensure that procurement teams have strong support from other departments that share a vision of long-term improvement. When the day-to-day role of procurement is fully visible and understood, companies can better focus on implementing solutions to help and better leverage the wealth of knowledge procurement professionals possess when it comes to long-term growth.
