Optimizing the Mobile Experience

Optimizing the Mobile Experience

We live in a world where everyone uses mobile devices to browse the web. Making sure you have your page optimized specifically for that is very important. You want to make sure your consumers have the best mobile experience. I have had many times when I have left a webpage because the site was not optimized for mobile and I had a tough time navigating through. AMP and PWA are two ways that you can optimize webpages for mobile.

What is AMP?

Accelerated Mobile Page (AMP) is an HTML page that is stripped down so that the mobile user gets an improved experience. The content is easier to navigate, faster, and easier-to-read. AMP HTML is a less detailed version of the regular HTML. Certain HTML elements are not allowed to be used on AMP. This will make sure that pages load fast and they look optimized for a mobile browser. AMP also restricts the use of any JavaScript to optimize the user experience on a mobile device. There is an exception, which is AMP scripts. AMP offers a component library that lets you create things like animations. Using the component library ensures that your content will be optimized and load quickly for the user. AMP will give your webpage many great features. These include: increase in volume in organic search traffic, reduces the load on your servers and increase engagement and conversations. Google integrated AMP into its mobile search results and pages using AMP appear in a specific place. You may not be able to make a webpage that is full of rich user experiences, but AMP allows you to make webpages that are optimized to a mobile browser to make sure the user has the best experience.

What is PWA?

Progressive Web Apps (PWA) are websites that look and feel like you are using a mobile application. They use the latest features that most browsers support to offer a website to feel like you just launched an app on your phone. If you use the Microsoft Outlook website to use word on your phone or computer, it might feel like you are on their app. But in reality, it is just a PWA. PWA are compatible with any device. Whether that is a desktop, tablet, or mobile phone. Using a PWA is easier for users since they don’t have to share the application on their phone. They can go directly to the site on a browser. This also allows the website’s link to be easily sharable between others. One of the best features with PWA is the ability to use the website offline. You just need to open the website and you are able to use it without an internet connection. With PWA, the consumers are able to easily bookmark their favorite websites, which helps prevent having to download the application. Even though PWA are a great feature with web browsing, there are some things that can’t be done that can be done on an actual application. PWA are not able to access many features on the device, but many applications can. These can range from Bluetooth, geofencing, to camera controls. PWA is a great way to let consumers have an application like experience without having to actually download the app.

Why AMP & PWA are Important

Mobile interface and experience are very important for digital marketers to know about, especially today. Consumers want to be able to access desktop webpages on their mobile phone and have a great user experience while doing so. Making sure that you have an optimized website for your customers can make all the difference in who will stay on your page.
