Optimizing Arc Magnet for Improved Motor Performance

Neodymium arc magnets are primarily used in motors. However, the motor's performance is significantly influenced not only by the magnet's magnetic performance and surface treatment but also by its shape and structure. For slotted motors, avoiding the cogging torque resulting from the interaction between the magnet and the stator tooth presents a significant challenge.

To mitigate the torque ripple, vibration, and noise caused by cogging torque, modifications can be made to the curved magnet. This is relevant in both frequently utilized radial flux motors and axial flux motors, where the magnet can be altered into a skewed shape.

Eddy current is a common cause of temperature rise in the permanent magnet, leading to demagnetization and subsequently decreasing the motor's operational efficiency. A solution to this issue is the use of laminated arc magnets. These are produced by bonding several thin magnet pieces together, which can significantly reduce eddy current loss. This method does not necessitate any changes to the motor's original structure and performance.
