System Pressure Class:
Low-pressure systems: Socket and spigot connections are usually sufficient.
Medium- to high-pressure systems: Flanged joints are recommended for better sealing and durability.
Duct Size and Type:
Circular ducts: Socket and spigot are easier to implement.
Large rectangular ducts: Flanged joints provide better structural support.
Air Leakage requirements.
Tight systems with minimal allowable leakage: Flanged joints with gaskets are preferred.
More lenient leakage requirements: Socket and spigot connections are acceptable.
Ease of Maintenance:
Systems requiring frequent dismantling (e.g., inspection, cleaning): Flanged joints are better.
Cost and Time Constraints:
Budget projects: Socket and spigot connections save time and money.
High-performance systems: Flanged joints justify the added cost due to improved reliability.
