Optimism Beats Pessimism

Optimism Beats Pessimism

If characters from Disney movies were in the business world, who do you think would be more successful?

Russell from the movie Up or Mr. Potato Head from Toy Story?

Olaf from the movie Frozen or Grumpy from Snow White?

If you haven’t seen any of these movies the first characters (Russell and Olaf) are more optimistic and the second (Mr. Potato Head and Grumpy) are pessimistic.

As demonstrated in these movie, optimistic attitudes open more doors. They are more approachable which draws people to them. They are highly motivated, show great fortitude and resilient when faced with adversity.

Almost 90 percent of the leaders of the Inc. 500 (some of the fastest growing companies in America) described themselves as confident or optimistic in the prospective success of their business.

This doesn’t mean that they are always happy, at all moments of the day. It means that these people focus on a positive outcome.

People who are pessimistic tend to see the worst in things and believe the worst will happen – hindering a person’s ability to fully engage in life’s activities.

It’s not how full or empty our glass is that determines the quality of our lives, but maybe it has something to do with our outlook on life.
