Opportunity: The Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT

Are you a journalism graduate working the science, technology or innovation beat? Applications for the 2023-24 Knight Science Journalism Fellowship are open until January 15th, 2023. The program offers academic-year fellowships to 10 science journalists to explore science, technology, and the craft of journalism. The program recognizes journalists who have demonstrated high level of professional excellence and accomplishment over at least three years of full-time employment in the field (on staff or freelance). Journalists from all countries are encouraged to apply.?

Each fellow consults with the director and Knight Science Journalism program staff to build a study program at MIT, Harvard, and other institutions in Cambridge and Greater Boston. Fellows complete a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based research project during the academic year. Some element of the research project must be journalistic in nature and may serve as the basis of a future story or the foundation of a book proposal. Each fellow will give a formal presentation on their projects at the end of the year.

Full-time residency in the Boston/Cambridge area for the academic year is required 9mid-August to late May). ?A $75,000 stipend, $3,000 relocation allowance, and other benefits, including basic health insurance for each fellow and their family, is included in the fellowship. Fellows must refrain from paid professional work during the course of the program, unless they have written permission from the director.
