Stoic Quote of the Week:
Sickness comes, captivity, disaster, conflagration, but none of them is unexpected? I always knew in what disorderly company Nature had confined me.
--Seneca
What I learned this week:
The amazing thing about the situation we are in is that it provides an opportunity to look at things differently. I have been looking at the situation from a couple of different perspectives. First, what does this do to my family and how can I help them deal with the situation. Second, what are the opportunities in the void. I have always been a problem solver. That works great in some case and in others, it is a detriment. When crisis happens, my problem solving goes into hyper drive. I continue to look for ways to make the best of the situation. This ‘pause’ as some people call it is presenting a limitless amount of opportunity for us to take advantage of. I’m not talking about hoarding toilet paper and hand sanitizer like the assholes in Kentucky. I’m talking about blue ocean stuff. Those things that solve a problem that we are facing as we develop our new normal. And that is what we are growing to, a new normal. It is inconvenient right now, and as with all things, time will heal and we will adjust.
"We should always allow some time to elapse, for time discloses the truth." -Seneca (bonus Stoic quote)
Planning thought of the week:
Plan for optimism and prepare for pessimism. As you develop your plan to lead you out the void created by remote working and lack of physical contact, focus on the clear most direct path to get from point A to B. Just like you choose a route on Google Maps. And, just like Google Maps, you have to be aware of alternate routes to get to the results you are looking for. That is what I mean by prepare for the pessimism or the worst. Take some time in your planning to discuss the worst situation(s) and even if they don’t happen you will be better prepared to get the results you want. If they do happen, you will be prepared.
Business idea I heard about or thought of:
Anything to enhance online connections. The majority of us are sitting in various rooms in our houses for work, which I’ve done for years and it isn’t bad because I would meet people for coffee, lunch or a beer. Well that part is shut off for the next month or so, until the curve is flattened. So, it is time to have virtual coffee, virtual beer and virtual meals together. I heard someone say today, we are physical distancing, not social distancing. I am going to open my Zoom Meeting Room in the afternoons starting 1600 Mountain, Tuesday-Friday. If you want to grab a virtual beer with me, join in. If you want to have a virtual cup of coffee, shoot me a note and I’ll open the window. Remember it is physical distancing not social distancing. Here’s my Zoom Room ID 497-388-5219
Veteran opportunity of the week:
Patriot Link is a free online resource that lists thousands of programs tailored to the military and veteran community. One of the biggest issues I have seen in the Veteran Service Organization (VSO) industry is knowing what is out there. That is the gap that Patriot Link is filling. It is a one stop database supported by VA and Code of Support.
Someone I met this week:
It’s a little tougher to meet new people but it is still possible. I connected with Shirley via another common connection in the coaching community. Shirley is a former IT manufacturing director and sales manager turned coach, transplanted to Texas. It is always great to talk with people who have the same values and focus to help people grow and succeed at life and business.
Take the LTO Enterprises Success Survey:
Do you know what success looks like for you? If you do, then this survey will help you begin to create a path that you can follow to have your success. If you don’t know what your success looks like, this survey will generate thoughts that will help you create a vision of success that is all yours.
As a thank you for taking the survey, I’ve made an exclusive 15 min video that will give you the steps to both create your vision of success and a path so you can achieve your success.
