As we near the end of National Stress Awareness Month, it is important to highlight how college administrators can meet the mental health needs of their black first-generation students. In this next edition of #FirstGenTalks, I want to reshare an op-ed that my colleagues and I wrote for publication in Diverse Issues in Higher Education in 2021. While colleges and universities have since transitioned their students back to campus after the pandemic, there are still suggestions that are applicable in today's educational climate.
