Dear Esteemed Colleagues and Partners,
In this edition of our newsletter, I am thrilled to share with you an inspiring journey that transcends the confines of operational management to embrace a global movement for gender equality.
Innovating for Impact: The Genesis of a Gender Resource Tracking System
In 2015, I embarked on a transformative project within the Budget team at WFP headquarters, aiming to develop a pioneering resource tracking and allocation system for gender-related activities. This initiative marked a departure from the existing norms, setting a new benchmark for accountability and strategic management in gender initiatives. Our dedication and collaborative spirit culminated in the creation of a state-of-the-art system, recognized as a leading model across the United Nations. This achievement was underscored by an accolade from UN WOMEN's senior management to the WFP Executive Director, acknowledging our contribution to enhancing the organization's capacity to monitor and allocate financial resources towards gender equality.
Fostering Male Engagement: The Birth of 'Men Stand for Gender Equality (MS4GE)'
Our journey didn't stop at institutional advancements. It sparked a deeper reflection on personal contributions to gender equality, particularly from the perspective of male allies. In 2015, during the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, 24 men at WFP founded 'Men Stand for Gender Equality (MS4GE),' a testament to the collective resolve to champion gender equality. What began as a modest group burgeoned into a global network of 1,700 members, spreading across country offices, regional bureaus, and headquarters, each committed to becoming gender champions.
Men's Circle: A New Chapter in Gender Advocacy for WFP

One of the pivotal moments in our journey towards gender equality was inspired by the compelling narrative of Elizabeth Nyamayaro's book, "I am a girl from Africa." This memoir not only recounts Elizabeth's remarkable journey from a small village in Zimbabwe to becoming a formidable force for gender equality at the United Nations by founding 'HEforSHE', the UNs platform on male engagement. The story of her transformation, fueled by a life-changing encounter with humanitarian aid, embodies the spirit of resilience and the power of dreams. It highlights the critical role each of us can play in advocating for gender equality and supporting the empowerment of women and girls around the world. Elizabeth's journey is a testament to the impact of determination, compassion, and the relentless pursuit of equality.
This connection led to a global event on International Women's Day, where I had the honor of interviewing Elizabeth, now also a WFP staff member, further expanding our dialogue on gender equality. This event laid the groundwork for the 'Men's Circle,' a global support platform for male colleagues and male spouses within WFP. The Men's Circle, part of WFP's FLOCK initiative, offers a safe space for men to share experiences, challenges, and insights on gender roles in their professional and personal lives. Our monthly sessions have fostered a community of empathy, understanding, and mutual support, contributing significantly to personal growth and collective advocacy for gender equality.
A Collective Vision for the Future
Our initiatives underscore the profound impact of operations management in bridging communities and strengthening organizational culture. The Men's Circle and MS4GE embody our commitment to creating a more inclusive, equitable world, both within and beyond WFP. As we continue to expand these initiatives, engaging more men and partners across the globe, we are reminded of the power of collective action in driving transformative change.
As we move forward, let us remain united in our dedication to fostering an environment where every voice is heard, every contribution valued, and every individual empowered to effect positive change. Together, we are not just operational managers; we are architects of a more equitable future.
Warmest regards,
