IDC predicted that by 2018 more than 60% of enterprise IT businesses would have committed to multi-cloud architectures.
This digital transformation is the result of cloud allowing business to consolidate servers, cut cost, innovate better and speed up the flow of information. These benefits are then passed on to the customers in terms of better experiences and engagement.
But what is driving this move to multi-cloud adoption? This is due to the 3 Ds:
Devices such as IoT – connected devices that collect and exchange data with each other and the customer.
Developers – developing cloud first and mobile first apps, and the infrastructure to support these apps.
Data at rest and motion – improved backup and recovery system together with more secure flow of data
Some companies such as AirBnB has adopted a cloud first strategy from the get go. But for other companies with legacy apps and are looking into adopting cloud, a move to multi-cloud environment will be a more feasible option. This hybrid-cloud approach allows businesses to leverage existing investment on-premise while expanding their usage on the public cloud at the same time.
Adopting hybrid cloud will not only impact the organisation’s technology but will also benefit its people, processes and customers.
This is where the Cloud Operating Model (COM) framework comes in to bring about the adoption of hybrid cloud. This framework helps to accelerate adoption in organisations and bring them to cloud maturity successfully. The COM includes a checklist of capabilities to help your organisation understand your cloud maturity level, along with a roadmap to achieve success and enable innovation and agility in optimising hybrid cloud adoption.
If you want to understand more about the COM framework, I will be speaking at SCS Cloud & BCM Conference 2017 on “How to be successful operating in a multi-cloud environment in the digital era?” In this presentation, you can learn about how the COM framework can help in your hybrid cloud implementation, identify key issues you might encounter at varying cloud maturity stage and how you can overcome these challenges. You can also learn about successful case studies of our key customers in achieving sustainable capabilities with our comprehensive suite of cloud solutions and how to adopt similar platforms as well.
See you at the SCS Cloud & BCM Conference 2017.
