1. Ballast Operation Overview: On this vessel, ballast water can only be pumped using a single pump. The main pump has a capacity of 1900 m3/h, but the system is designed for a flow rate of 1500 m3/h. To control the flow, the inlet valve of the filter is not fully opened, limiting the flow. Additionally, the inlet valves for each ballast tank are not fully opened either. During single pump operation, the handwheel valve can be adjusted to ensure that the water flow to both ballast tanks is balanced. For deballasting, both pumps can be used without any issues.
2. Valves and Flow Adjustment: The HV001 valve controls the flow into the filter. During ballasting, it should be opened to the marked position to maintain a flow rate around 1600 m3/h. PV001 is the control valve for the air pressure, which should be set above 5 kg/cm2. In ballast mode, this valve automatically adjusts according to the pump's status—opening when the pump is on and closing after a short delay when the pump is off.
3. Ballast Mode on the Control Panel: To start the ballasting operation, select the "BALLAST EDU" mode on the control panel and press "START." Once the system is activated, you can start the pump. It's recommended to open the relevant valves beforehand to avoid alarms and system shutdowns. If an alarm does occur, the system must be restarted before the pump can be operated again.

The water must be filtered by the AFU system before entering the APT tank. Adjust the valves to ensure the EDU receives water from the APT tank rather than the main ballast line. Follow the same ballasting procedure as for seawater.

Important Reminders:

• When de-ballasting, if the seawater intake valve for the ballast pump is opened, an alarm will sound, and the system will stop automatically. This won’t affect de-ballasting, but the neutralizing process will not take place, which is against regulations.
• Always prepare the chemicals for the ANU unit according to the manual, or based on the sampling results.
