Terraform, changed its license from MPL v2 to Business source licence v1.1 which allows only non-production use. As a response The Linux Foundation has released open alternative to Terraform as OpenTofu, earlier known as OpenTF. One can understand why this was needed by reading through OpenTofu manifesto. This open source version will help many businesses to continue using free version instead of shifting to the fee based license of Terraform.

For unversed Terraform provides great solution to a number of use-cases such as multi-cloud deployment workflows etc.

Thanks Badarinarayan Joshi for sharing this. OpenTofu looks like a promising addition to the world of infrastructure automation and It's fantastic to see more open-source alternatives emerging to popular tools like Terraform. I'm excited to explore OpenTofu now ??
