An Open?Meditation

An Open?Meditation

"The attempt to escape from pain is what creates more pain" - Gabor Mate

Today, we will do what I call an open meditation.

An open meditation is a practice where we allow our awareness to expand freely, without specific direction or focus as such. Simply allowing our awareness to touch to rest on as many aspects of ourselves; our pain, pleasures, related thoughts, sensations, feelings, etc.

In an open meditation, we practice engaging with moment-to-moment experience as it unfolds, using our breath as an anchor. Rather than trying to control or limit our thoughts, sensations, or emotions, we simply observe them with openness and acceptance, allowing them to arise and pass away, as they do, naturally.

In this practice, the breath becomes our guide, helping us to tune into the body, to explore the interplay between movement and stillness.

We use the breath to guide our awareness:

With each inhale, we focus on how the breath moves through the body, noticing the sensations that accompany it. With each exhale, we move into the experience of the body, paying attention to the stillness that naturally arises within us.

This stillness exists even as we breathe, embodying the paradox of movement within stillness.

Throughout the meditation, we return to the breath—using it to connect the body, sensations, sensations of pain, pleasure,? stillness, and movement, ultimately bringing us back to a deeper sense of self-awareness.

Benefits...

1. It sharpens your ability to observe thoughts and emotions, boosting self-understanding.

2. It calms the mind, reduces stress, and fosters emotional balance by melting away tension.

3. It improves concentration, helping you stay grounded and clear in the moment.
