Opening up politics to a broader range of talent

Politics today feels stuck. The world is changing fast. The challenges of emerging technologies, geopolitical conflicts and demographic shifts need leaders equipped to address them.?

Today we launch Civic Future to tackle these challenges and improve public leadership.?

We need to open up our political system to a broader range of talent. We need to re-energise public life by attracting more high calibre people. We need better government by preparing leaders for the big challenges ahead. This is what Civic Future aims to do.

In today’s Times, our founder Munira Mirza makes the case for a new talent pipeline to attract brilliant and inspirational people from different backgrounds, and support them to become the public leaders we deserve.

In the new year we will launch the Civic Future Fellowship, a one-year programme to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to become great public leaders. Through evening seminars, weekend residential events and overseas trips, participants will discuss the most important moral, technological and governance issues of our time. Those interested in finding out more about the Fellowship can sign up to an online session to hear more here .

Alongside the Fellowship, we will run a series of public events including debates, lectures, and conferences with some of the most important thinkers in the UK and across the world.

We will also offer training and educational briefings for existing and aspiring Parliamentarians and officials, on relevant topics including science, economics, delivery, and crisis management.

To find out more and receive our newsletter, sign up to the Civic Future mailing list here .

Not sure how greater fluidity and meritocracy will improve the quality of politics based on the Times article. More detail needed on the nature of the problems, the outcomes desired and the mechanisms by which greater fluidity and meritocracy will deliver these desired outcomes
