Opening Speech to 39th AGM cum Lunar New Year & 40th Anniversary Celebrations as outgoing President, ISACA Singapore Chapter

Good evening! I hope you enjoyed the Lion Dance! To fellow members, thanks for joining us and I wish you a great year ahead. And to fellow Chinese members, I also wish you a happy lunar new year. It is so great to be finally able to have our AGM in person after covid. Today, we also celebrate our 40th anniversary since the formation of our chapter. ISACA Singapore Chapter has indeed come a long way from its humble beginnings some 40 years ago in 1983. It was not called ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) then but EDPAA or Electronic Data Processing Auditors Association until 1994 when it had the name switch.

We are thankful to have with us Mr Chew Teck Soon, one of our pioneer Presidents of the ISACA Singapore Chapter with us today. Today at our AGM, we shall elect our next President and board whom I have great confidence to bring us to even greater heights.

40 years is not a short time and our membership has grown from strength to strength with past presidents stacking achievements after achievements on top of foundations laid down by predecessors.?

We have currently close to 2,000 out of our 3,400 membership who have been members with the ISACA Singapore Chapter for at least 5 years or longer and continue to stay with us. 511 are platinum members who have been with ISACA for more than 15 years, myself included. Many of our members hail from BFSI, consultancy firms, government bodies. More than 500 of our membership are senior leaders helming governance, risk, cybersecurity, audit or privacy.

Among our members, besides our board of 14 who have served selflessly and our 2 staff members, we have almost 50 active volunteers as well as 8 Past Presidents who still actively supported us in our initiatives. I take this opportunity to thank them as well as all of you for continuing your chapter membership as we try to bring more value to you.

ISACA Singapore Chapter is recognized internationally. With the ISACA Global awards, we have had 2 Hall of Fame awards, 3 Chapter Awards and 3 Outstanding Chapter Leader awards till date. We also won the best non-profit organization award in The Cybersecurity Awards 2018.

Our programs have also won various external awards. In fact, the SheLeadsTech program championed by Jenny Tan has won 2 external awards as well as acknowledgement by Minister Josephine Teo in her opening speech during The Cybersecurity Awards 2022. Many of our BoDs have also won various other individual awards outside of ISACA.

At my President's report later, I will share more about our specific achievements in 2022. Do also enjoy the rest of the evening as we celebrate the Lunar New Year as well as our 40th anniversary. And I also look forward to recognize the champions and volunteers among us in the chapter!
