Being fully present is a recurrent theme in our fast-paced world, highlighting its critical role. It is common knowledge that being present is essential to finding fulfillment, whether through the skill of cherishing special moments with our loved ones or the unwavering focus needed for career success. But this condition of being is not a one-size-fits-all offering; instead, it is a multifaceted gem that reflects various aspects based on the viewpoint and circumstances of an individual's life.
Some people, like my daughter, are the epitome of living fully in the present. When you are with them, you are taken to their world, where you can enjoy the simplicity and spontaneity of the present moment. For them, the past and future are faraway shores.
The Forward-Thinking Present:
Conversely, some individuals live in the moment, focusing on what lies ahead. They carefully consider options, make plans, and set a path for the future. For them, being present is a delicate dance between the immediate task and the anticipation of what's to come.
Haunted by the Past:
Those who have survived traumatic events, such as those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), on the other hand, might quickly become entangled in the web of the past. It is difficult for them to fully engage with the present moment because lingering memories of upsetting experiences frequently cast a shadow over their sense of being present.

Compelled to Be in the Room:
People might find themselves compelled to remain in some unusual situations. A colleague recently shared an intriguing concept with me: the idea of having to be present, something I hadn't personally considered. I've always cherished being present, thriving on the connections forged at the moment.
The Pandemic's Unprecedented Impact:
But with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, the terrain of being present changed dramatically. For many extroverts like me, being in the moment with others has always been a fulfilling and natural aspect of life. It was a privilege we took for granted. The pandemic's restrictions and social distancing measures suddenly made it difficult to be present with people, highlighting the tremendous value of the relationships we used to have so easily.
Being present is a concept that is constantly changing and a kaleidoscope of deeply personal experiences. Living fully in the present, accepting the future, overcoming painful memories from the past, or even facing the idea of being forced into the present are some examples of what it can mean. Our understanding of being present constantly changes as we go through the complex tapestry of our journeys and the constantly changing landscape of our world. This process serves as a reminder of the intricate mosaic of human existence and our dynamic relationship with the present moment.
