Pratik Tailor is the Global Lead Security Engineer for Dr. Martens.
When we sat down with Pratik, he shared that broader and more regular 1:1 conversations present a critical means of compensating for the challenges brought by the physical distance separating managers and employees today, ultimately helping people, like himself, to stay happier and healthier - at work and in life.
Speaking from his own experiences, and 15+ years as a people manager, Pratik also shared that 1:1 conversations that enable managers to get to know their people on a deeper level, can be huge drivers for positive change, enabling conversations that might never have happened to take place and create lasting impact across teams and organisations.

We also had the opportunity to speak with Charlotte Delaney, Head of Content at B2B marketing agency, Nutcracker.
Charlotte discussed the benefits of formalising broad and inclusive conversations as part of Nutcracker's culture. By introducing these conversations to new employees as part of their onboarding experience, they're setting a precedent for them to continue at regular intervals, which presents a huge amount of value - both to the employee and the wider business.
Speaking from her own managerial experience, Charlotte says this also provides valuable insight into the individual’s goals and personal circumstances from the get-go, meaning she can begin shaping their experience of work in a way that suits them, resulting in a happier, more motivated, and more productive team.
Stephen joined Guidant Global - part of global workforce solutions firm, Impellam Group - in January 2019 and moved into his role as Senior Marketing Executive later that year. Stephen is also a disability inclusion specialist who, as a full-time wheelchair user, draws on his own experiences and knowledge to support progression in the areas of disability confidence and inclusion.?
When we spoke with Stephen, he explained his experiences of regular and open conversations that extend beyond the typical 1:1, helping to dismantle misconceptions with regards to his disability, and enabling him to talk about the things that mattered most to him with his manager. Stephen stated that "the two are intrinsically linked because conversation is key to enabling people to understand what constitutes a barrier and we need that knowledge if we are to succeed in levelling the playing field".
