OpenAI Offerings for Enterprises - An Overview

Companies contract directly with OpenAI for some offerings

Recently, our AI Analysts and I had a productive call with Dane Vahey , Head of Strategic Marketing, and Olivier Godement , Head of Product API at OpenAI. The call clarified OpenAI's offerings, pricing models, and differentiation for companies.

Beyond its $20/month retail offering, OpenAI has two main offerings for companies:

OpenAI releases the same version of its foundational models to both API and ChatGPT for Enterprise.

The API consists of models that allow companies to build customized, white-label AI products. The value proposition is its extreme flexibility. The API is available through both Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and OpenAI. Pricing is based on token consumption.

ChatGPT for Enterprise is the company version of its popular, consumer ChatGPT chatbot. It features enhanced security, privacy, no usage caps, higher performance, a larger context window, dedicated instances, and other enterprise-grade features. ChatGPT for Enterprise is hosted by OpenAI, not Microsoft Azure. Like the retail version, pricing is based on per-seat pricing, not token consumption.

Companies purchase ChatGPT for Enterprise directly from OpenAI for several reasons, including the additional features and the desire to work more closely with OpenAI. Customers of ChatGPT for Enterprise are assigned an OpenAI Customer Success Manager.

For enterprise customer support, OpenAI collaborates with a various implementation partners, including PwC, Bain, BCG, and Accenture.

OpenAI does not offer an on-premise model of its product.

Unless OpenAI has hired more sales people, expect to wait a long time to get an appointment with OpenAi to discuss Enterprise. We waited months with no reply.

This is great... that said, have heard there is at least one on-premises option?
