OpenAI launches GPT Store to let users share custom chatbots
Business d'Or
World's leading magazine for CEOs, CFOs, investors, senior executives, business leaders, and high net-worth individuals.
OpenAI’s GPT Store was launched on Wednesday, following a delay of several months. This store allows users to share their custom chatbots, opening up new possibilities for ChatGPT. It also expands OpenAI’s ecosystem beyond what the company creates for its users.
After introducing the GPT Builder program in November, OpenAI reported that users have already created over 3 million bots, known as GPTs. As an example, I created a GPT that suggests synonyms for common words. The company intends to showcase helpful GPTs on a weekly basis within the store.
Initially, the company intended to launch the GPT Store in November, but it was postponed to December and eventually to January. This platform enables individuals who have developed their own chatbots to share them publicly within the ChatGPT framework. Currently, only users who are subscribed to OpenAI’s paid tiers have the ability to create and utilize custom GPTs.
OpenAI’s Plans, New GPT Store, and ChatGPT Team Pricing
OpenAI has also revealed plans to initiate a revenue-sharing program with GPT creators in the first quarter of this year. Those who build GPTs will receive payment based on user engagement with their chatbots, although the company hasn’t disclosed the specific details of how this will work in practice yet.
Before the GPT Store officially launched, OpenAI mentioned the implementation of a new review system. This system aims to guarantee that custom GPTs adhere to the company’s brand guidelines and usage policies. OpenAI has also made changes to the process of reporting any GPTs that users may find harmful or unsafe.
The GPT Store will become accessible to users of ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise users, and those subscribed to a newly introduced tier called Team.
ChatGPT Team is a paid edition designed for smaller teams comprising approximately 150 individuals. Similar to ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Team provides access to GPT-4, DALL-E 3, and OpenAI’s Advanced Data Analysis feature, along with data control.
