Rs 17 lakh- that’s what OpenAI could be asked to pay monthly for one of its AI services. The company is reportedly planning to introduce a series of specialised artificial intelligence (AI) agents soon. These AI agents will be designed to offer specialised knowledge-based information on various domains. Unlike most of the tech giant's offerings, these services are said not to be a part of its existing subscription tiers; instead, OpenAI could offer them as standalone services.
The Information, in its report, mentioned that the San Francisco-based AI firm is planning to launch three different AI agents, which would be highly specialized as expert-level professionals in their knowledge domain. Citing people acquainted with the matter, the publication claimed that these AI agents could come at a monthly subscription, which could cost as high as $20,000 per month (Rs 17.43 lakh approx).
Although the report did not mention the release date or time of these AI agents, it is known that one of the AI agents is reportedly a “high-income knowledge worker." This designation is commonly used to describe persons who have extensive knowledge in their field and whose work involves critical thinking, strategic planning, and decision-making.
For instance, Chief Experience Officers (CXOs), management consultants, financial analysts, and more. This AI agent might cost $2,000 per month (Rs 1.74 lakh approx).
Another AI agent, currently under development, is claimed to be a software developer who could charge $10,000 (Rs 8.7 lakh approx) each month. This AI agent is expected to be skilled in coding, debugging, fixing, and code deployment. Devin AI, which is also a software developer AI agent, costs $500 (Rs 45,500 approx) per month. Notably, OpenAI already provides coding capabilities through its ChatGPT platform, however, it cannot do tasks autonomously, which is expected from AI agents.
However, according to the story, the AI firm’s “PhD-level research" agent will cost $20,000 per month. Google also unveiled its Gemini Deep Research feature, which is described as a “personal research assistant" that can conduct autonomous research on topics and generate thorough reports. It is offered to Gemini Advanced members for Rs 1,950 per month. With such a high subscription price, the AI agent may be capable of doing highly complex tasks such as subject ideation, research simulation, and deep analysis.
Based on the prices, it is likely that these AI agents will be provided to enterprises rather than end customers. The report highlighted that SoftBank, OpenAI’s investor, has committed to investing $3 billion (Rs 26,112 crore approx.) in the company’s AI agent products by 2025.
