Simple Answer:
-Instead of using the "Open to Work" badge, use "Open to Recruiters" option. It will not show you as someone desperately in need of employment.
-It will present you to the recruiters as a dynamic professional.
Evidence:
-From psychological perspective, the "Open to Work" badge leaves a negative impact on the minds of the recruiters.
Explanation:
The discussion around LinkedIn's 'Open to Work' feature is divisive. Some see it as a beacon of desperation, while others tout its effectiveness in job searches. However, there's a discreet alternative: the "open to recruiters" setting. This option subtly communicates your job-seeking status without broadcasting it to your entire network. Nonetheless, the 'Open to Work' feature can inadvertently shift focus away from your professional value and highlight your unemployment status. It's important to present yourself as a dynamic professional rather than solely emphasizing your need for employment.

1 年Quite frankly, I couldn't care less if someone thinks it's desperate. The reality is, I have used the badge for a while because I quit without a backup back in December because I knew I would find something else in a matter of weeks (and of course I did). If that's a desperate move in someone's books, I don't think I want to work with someone like that, so it's a nice filter.

1 年I have browsed connections today and only reached out to open to work badges. So I would disagree with this post. I am also not a hiring manager. I am a managing partner and would rather someone not afraid to appear "desperate for a job" than someone who won't show up :)
