Open Source Innovation - Are you ready !!

We have always linked innovation to a simple fact of doing and making things.  By putting things and bringing things together to solve a problem.  An idea that needs to be translated to a working model.  

Innovation is also doing things faster and better - not necessarily cheaper.  How does one master Innovation?  How can we create a culture within the organization for Innovation ?

Answer is simple.  Do you have the ecosystem within the company that cultivates and motivates people to put things together.  Are all your resources plumbers and mechanics.  Just like a kid putting things working on ripping apart the new toy, Innovation has to start with curiosity.  Better way to do this is by leveraging Open Source.  I called this Open sourcing innovation.  

Today open source as a platform for innovation has many takers.  There is a rich ecosystem of resources both in terms of technology, software, solutions and platforms that will enable Innovation.  For me open source = open innovation.  Innovation has to cross boundaries of organizations and should encompass vendors, suppliers, customers and consumers.  The community way of sharing and coding is the fundamental pillar of Innovation.  Innovation does not need the traditional checks and balances.  Innovation needs free flow of ideas and knowledge.  Open Sourcing allows this to happen.  Open source innovation will scare away traditional thinking.  It fosters out of the box mindset that is critical.  

Let us all start a revolution of Open Source Innovation.  I articulate a simple 4 step process for open source innovation

- Adopt open source technology within your organization.  

- Encourage resources to put things together and rip things apart.  

- Create circles of collaboration (breaking barriers of organization) for people and knowledge to come together

- Reward good behavior and recognize them by making it mainstream
