Open to opportunities, Open to challenges: Chetan’s Story

Staying open to possibilities and making best use of the opportunities has always been the mantra of Chetan’s career and now let’s have a look his professional journey and his experience with Truminds.

After graduating with an engineering degree (Metallurgy) and spending about 6 months in a steel plant, Chetan relooked into his choice of career and decided to switch to the Hi-Tech sector because of his childhood passion with computers. Following a multitude of roles in domains ranging from at Aricent (now Capgemini Engineering), Alcatel Lucent to B2C (managing Xbox at Microsoft in 2013-14) to consulting (supporting multiple startups with Vedanta) to launching his own startup dealing in frozen food products and scaling it to multiple stores in Gurgaon, his journey has been a multi-faceted and exciting one. In 2018, while he was in the process of registering his own company in the product engineering space, he happened to connect with Rakesh (CEO) and Sanjiv (CTO) in a garage. After the discussion with both of them, Chetan decided to join Truminds, the very next day, as the first Management hire responsible for leading software products, projects delivery and innovation.

Chetan says that he has experienced the heady rush of challenges ever since he joined Truminds. Launching multiple products at the beginning meant juggling multiple balls at the same time and playing different roles as demanded by any newly formed company. Chetan has always focused on the company’s vision of providing a culture of learning and motivating employees to leading by example by himself contributing to the projects and getting involved hands-on when required. Continuous learning and overcoming challenges have always been his forte. Chetan has led the delivery of the IoT, Cloud and Digital projects and played a pivotal role in successfully scaling and delivering them.

From talking to the clients to interacting with premier engineering colleges for hiring young and bright engineers, to pitching in ideas when needed, he recalls starting off with micro-sized teams and growing them over time. Word of mouth has been a great growth driver at Truminds with respect to hiring, and several young college graduates, who were hired in early years of the company formation, from premium institutes of India have been the ambassadors for their respective colleges in later years. Not just that, couple of interns who were mentored by Chetan, during their internships at Truminds, are now doing great in their careers working in US in various Fortune 500 companies.?

For freshers looking to join Truminds, Chetan has some simple approach “Getting exposure from those around you at the workplace will always teach you a lot more than working at home ever will. Get your basics right when studying and then use advanced tools to hone your skills at work. No matter what AI can do, it cannot replace human innovation and learning. Remember that you write code for computers, but your products are meant for humans. It helps to refine your communication skills and learn how to talk to customers and convey your thoughts in an engaging manner. Most importantly, learn and upskill yourself continuously”. He cites his own example about how Truminds helped him during his executive MBA from IIM Raipur (2023 batch) by providing any and all support he needed. This, he says, is something everyone can be assured of.
