An Open Letter To the UN
To Whom This May Concern,
As you read this, thousands of Gazan civilians are leaving their cities en masse. They understand that a prolonged war is imminent, and do not want themselves or their children to be affected. They are unwilling to be used as human shields for terror organization Hamas, which places them on rooftops to deter Israeli pilots from bombing their militants and the weapon caches they have placed in hospitals and schools. Some of them want to eventually return home and live in peace – a peace which their warmongering regime will never provide. Others have wanted to leave Gaza for decades, in the hopes of finding an opportunity to live a better life in a place where leadership does not oppress them.
The harsh truth is that they no longer have a choice, just as Israel now has been given no choice by Hamas. An Israeli incursion of Gaza is imminent, as no Israeli citizen or politician can sit idly by while Hamas terrorists continue to post footage of themselves delighting in their atrocities: a young boy who cries for Mommy while being pushed around by his captors, of captive babies being held like animals in cages, of mutilated bodies paraded in the streets. The horrific attack of October 7th is akin in scale to what the US faced in the attacks of 9/11, and incomparable to anything Israel has ever seen in the scope of carnage and brutality; the Israeli response will not be limited to a mere “operation”. This is an all-out war on Hamas and everything they represent: unbridled hatred, oppressive tyranny, and death as the highest ideal.
When this war is through, Gaza will be under Israeli control. Israel now understands that there is no other option. It had removed all settlements in 2005 and provided Gazans with their own land and autonomy, only to be faced with an evil Hamas regime which has taken international aid money from the impoverished Gazan people to build terror tunnels, launch tens of thousands of missiles at Israeli civilians, and stuff the pockets of their leaders. For two decades Israel has lived under a constant threat of attack which finally culminated in a disaster. It will not make the same mistake and leave Hamas to do as they please. Most importantly, Israel will not rest until its hostages are returned to their terrified families: the liberation of just a few captive soldiers was reason enough for full-scale military operations; this time there are estimated to be more than one hundred captives, including the elderly and very young children. Israel cannot allow this situation to ever occur again.
Israel does not want to harm Gazan civilians. The Israel Defense Force’s policy of restraint against harming civilians has been unparalleled, often coming at the expense of removing key Hamas leaders and threats and even at the loss of Israeli life. While Israeli soldiers and decision-makers will still do all in their power to keep civilians safe during this war, this can no longer come at the expense of greater goals: the return of all Israeli hostages and a lasting end to the cruel tyranny of Hamas so that both Israeli and Gazan civilians can live in peace.
Members of the UN: you can make a difference. You can continue to care for the refugees in UN schools, while working tirelessly to have countries open their borders to refugees who desire to emigrate. You can encourage all civilians still residing in Gazan cities to disengage from their terrorist captors and choose life instead. Your countries can send support to all civilians – Israeli and Gazan alike - affected by the horrific attack and the resulting war. Israel will do more than its fair share to support the refugees, just as it had provided aid to Syrians escaping their civil war and to other countries in their times of need.

Please help do your part in leading those refugees to safety, so that Israel may do what it must with a clear conscience: eradicate the evil that is Hamas, for once and for all.
Sincerely,
A concerned Israeli citizen.
