An Open Letter to our Next Head of School

Jessica,

As I finally have a minute to sit down to write this letter,? I want to share my heartfelt congratulations to you.? I have full confidence that you will lead our school with grace and skill.? As you begin your own Wheeling Country Day School journey, know that you will find great wisdom in the hearts and minds of those who know and love this school, from students and teachers to trustees and parents. Trust in your abilities, draw on your experience, and most importantly, lean into the WCDS community.? ?

As I did, you will stand on the shoulders of giants, but it is your leadership that will shape the future of WCDS. I do not doubt that you will build upon its strong foundation and take our school to new heights.? As I move on to the next chapter of my career, I look forward to providing whatever partnership I can as I will remain a lifelong supporter of my WCDS family. Together, throughout the upcoming transition, we will continue to foster a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student and adult feels valued and empowered to succeed.

As I close, I'm reminded of remarks by former President Obama, “I have said before, I think of this job as being a relay runner — you take the baton, you run your best race, and hopefully, by the time you hand it off you’re a little further ahead...”

Personally, I live in rowing analogies, so as it is time for me to "Let it run," may the momentum carry our WCDS community forward with your leadership.

Once again, congratulations on your new role, and I wish you all the success and fulfillment that I have been blessed to procure. May your journey as the Head of our school be filled with joy, purpose, and the same sense of endless possibilities that our students, teachers, and I find here.
