An open letter to Kenyan Bosses.
30/04/2020,
Dear Sir/Madam,
RE: How to Fire Someone.
When you want to fire someone, please don't come at the common workspace to verbal diarrhea on them telling them how they are good for nothing and have never met any targets since you employed them and as such you can't continue funding their lifestyles for zero returns. Because by doing so in front of everyone you strip them of their dignity. You break their will. You puncture their self-esteem. You deem their lights right from their souls.
And even though your pursuit of profit doesn't allow you to put dignity into the equation, please remember that the persons you are talking to are mothers and fathers. They are daughters and sons. When somebody is frustrated at work they project it at home or keep it in and die slowly out of depression. If they are parents they are expected to raise children who are whole, affirmed. Kids who know their worth, overflowing with self-esteem. But how can they give something they don't have? How can they affirm their children when their souls are broken into a million pieces? By walking around stripping others of their dignity you rob their children(a whole generation) an opportunity to be whole. You rob their spouses/parents an opportunity to interact with a fully functional human.
So when you want to fire someone, call them to your office because we know you have them. Explain your position clearly and respectfully. You don't have to shout. They don't have a hearing problem. You don't have to bang tables or thump your chest. They can hear all right. Once you are done with the person don't 'come to the workspaces to give threats "who would like to be next?" We already know the drill and we are trying hard to meet targets while looking for opportunities to run away from your madness.
Your consideration will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Concerned employee.
