An open letter from the Cluedin Team
Today we released our Enterprise offering of Cluedin to the world. This open letter is published with the intention to justify why we think our software solves an enterprise-level problem with an enterprise approach.
For those who are not aware of what we do, we enable companies to access, learn from and utilize the knowledge that already sits, dormant, inside their company tools. We do this by giving each employee a simple way to find and surface an intelligent and actionable view of the information that is important to them across their company.
When the word ‘enterprise’ is mentioned, you might be thinking about scale, security, privacy and complete control over access, data retention, and data sovereignty.
You may also think about dedicated support from a company that has the right amount and right set of people to help customers achieve their vision. We can confidently say, we have proudly achieved this.
Security
Lets talk security first. Security covers encryption of data, traffic, access control, and a guarantee that all of these attributes are equal to industry standards or better. When breaking down what we do, we integrate information from any possible source.
Potentially, these sources range in strength, in regards to the different security attributes. This results in one solid fact:
We need to be equally or more secure than any integration point we connect to.
It would be ignorant to say that we have better security than the likes of enterprises such as Microsoft and Salesforces. Yet, it would not be ignorant to say that we match the industry standards that are set by the likes of these large enterprises. And this is exactly the guarantee we give to our customers.
All transfer and storage of anything synced from the different services is transferred over secure and encrypted networks and stored in encrypted datastores. In addition, starting today, we will exclusively offer our enterprise customers the ability to completely choose where to store their data – Amazon, Azure, Google Cloud, On-Premise, or even a hybrid approach.
Privacy
Now, let's move to privacy. Security and privacy are very different topics and hence deserve very individual responses from us. When Cluedin entered the business of enabling companies to benefit from the information that is generated within their respective company, we decided on a simple, yet different approach to sharing knowledge – information should be shared by default.
In this revelation, we took into account that not all information is supposed to be shared, even in a shared by default world. The trick is that we share information in Cluedin using a multiple staged security and privacy process. First, we respect all the Access Control and permissions set by the source tool. This means that if John cannot see a PowerPoint presentation in the source tool like Dropbox, he cannot see it in Cluedin. Yet, he can see that the presentation exists. This is the fundamental reason why Cluedin’s customers are hugely benefiting from an organically open knowledge environment. Second, we combine this strict access control with our specially trained data models for sensitivity detection. This solves the problem of information that slips through the Access Control gaps, despite the information not being considered sensitive by a human.
Scaling
Next, I would like to talk about scaling.
We have reached a critical scaling point within Cluedin.
We are currently processing more than 1,000,000 clues each day, which equates to more than 500 GB of data that we process for our customers every month. This amount of data is being processed from more than 1,300 services ranging from Salesforce to Office 365 and ranging from Documents to Mail, to Customer records.
Our engineering team has amazingly been able to achieve this result in a way that means all 1,300 services can be processed in under four hours. When you think about the amount of data you have in your organization – including files, mail, code, and more – this is an astonishing engineering feat. On this basis, we feel more than ready to process the data that sits within some of the biggest enterprises in the world in an efficient way.
Support
Finally, lets talk about the support of a company of skilled people. Cluedin has grown its team over the last 12 months to help support any enterprise customer that comes onboard to make sure that all their different integration points are supported in Cluedin.
This means that any custom integration or currently not supported integration for Cluedin is backed by a skilled team of engineers that are dedicated to filling the gaps for your organization. Furthermore, this eliminates one of the expenses involved in building the connected enterprise, which is the work involved in manually mapping the data that exists across the plethora of different tools used by your company.
That is the old way of solving this problem, this is the modern way.
All of the above and more makes the Cluedin-team more than confident that if you are a company that is ready to become a connected enterprise, then we have the product and the support to get you to and past that point and start benefitting from the advantages of working as a connected company.

7 年Good stuff team CluedIn. You are the pain-killer for information retrieval that all CIO's should prescribe for their internal users. I am very curios to see where you go from here...
