An Open Letter from The Board of Directors & The Academic Board of Governors of The Roman Ridge School

On 30 January 2024, The Roman Ridge School (TRRS) invited an Inspection of Standards for a British School Overseas carried out by a five (5) member team from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), a body approved by the British Government, through the Department of Education (DfE), for the purpose of inspecting independent schools in England and overseas. This is an elective exercise that we have embarked on to affirm our standing as a Ghanaian school that offers a British Independent Schools standard of education.

TRRS opted for a full school inspection combining the assessment of Educational Quality and Compliance. We should at this point mention that the school’s previous ISI inspection was in 2014.

The inspectors, over a four (4) day period, observed lessons, conducted formal interviews with pupils and examined samples of pupils’ work. They held discussions with members of staff and with members of the Academic Board of Governors. They observed a sample of extra-curricular activities and attended Form Periods and assemblies. Inspectors also visited the school clinic, together with learning support and our educational resources areas. In addition, the inspectors engaged with parents and pupils through a pre-inspection questionnaire, as well as examined the school’s curriculum and other regulatory documentation.

The key findings of the report are the school meets all of the Standards for British Schools Overseas except those which it is precluded from meeting because of the host country’s legislation.

Compliance

·?????? Requirements relating to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils are met.

·?????? Standards relating to welfare, health and safety of pupils are met.

·?????? Standards relating to the suitability of those in contact with pupils at the school are met.

·?????? Standards relating to the premises are met.

·?????? Standards relating to the provision of information to all stakeholders are met.

·?????? Standards relating to the handling of complaints are met.

·?????? Standards relating to the quality of leadership and management are met.

Educational Quality

·?????? The quality of the pupils’ learning and achievement is good.

·?????? The quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent.

We, at the Board of Directors and the Academic Board of Governors, are proud and delighted at the results of our school inspection. This is a clear endorsement of our educational philosophy and an affirmation of the quality service we proudly administer to our pupils. TRRS once again flies our school flag, and indeed our national flag, high and proud.

We take this opportunity to thank our Principal, Mrs Valerie Mainoo and her very able Management Team for soundly leading our much-loved school over the years. We extend our profound appreciation to our parents, particularly our PTA Executive, for supporting us every step of the way and contributing immensely to this glowing inspection report. Our staff, teaching and non-teaching, have long been an enviable asset to the school. Your dedication, commitment, and passion to educate is exemplary.
