Open Letter to Fellow Servants in Christ
Tim Gillen
President at The Everett and Austin Project, Hike for Duchenne & Hike for Africa
Dear Fellow Servant of Christ,
I'm a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. I got a BA in Bible in 1988 and have served as a missionary for about 10 years now all together. I'm currently living in Peekskill NY and attending Hillsong NYC in Manhattan.
I did a write-up of my personal testimony a few years ago and put it online. Here's the link...

My sons were born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 1994 (Everett) and 1996 (Austin). They lived to be 16 (Austin) and 22 (Everett).
God taught us all a lot through the experience. Here is a short write-up of a little bit of what I personally have learned...

I started a charity named after Everett and Austin in October 2018. We had great care for them here in America, but people in the third world haven't been near as fortunate. So The Everett and Austin Project helps those in poor countries going through it.
My maiden voyage is set for the country of Uganda in East Africa. My plan is to go next month in October (2019) for 2 weeks. We had our first major breakthrough in helping a family in Uganda this past Monday (Sept 2, 2019).
Here is a little write-up and short video about it...

As you can tell, we have already begun helping those who are experiencing this deadly disease in the third world. The sheer joy and happiness that you will see in this video is incredibly exciting and rewarding. I love being able to help the Kayongas! We expect to be able to help the Kayongas more, and then also to find others in Uganda and other poor countries that we can help.
In order to be able to make our maiden voyage, we will need to raise some more funds. We have already raised about 80% of our goal of $10,400 for the trip. Of course we will need much more than this to accomplish our mission in Uganda and helping those in surrounding areas of the third world.
The following is a list of items that are needed in order to assist the poor and the lame that we are helping. We are working so hard so that we can be more effective in supporting these sick children.
- Wheelchairs
- Beddings
- Clothes
- Medical Fees
- Guidance and Support
- School Fees
- Scholastic Materials
Medium Range Goal:Set up the Kayongas with a sustainable shop so that they will have income and Paul can care for the kids. Long Term Goal: a home for the disabled like Hillsong South Africa created in South Africa. We would like to create one in Uganda. Even Longer Term Goal: a home for the disabled in multiple poor countries!
These verses from Luke 14 are driving us:
“But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,” Luke 14:13
“…’Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’” Luke 14:21
I'm doing my second "Hike for Duchenne" on September 18th. I'm walking from our office in Peekskill to Yankee Stadium - 36 miles. It's a fundraiser to help Paul Kayonga some more and others like him in poor countries. Here is the write-up about it...

Do you know any individuals or churches or businesses who could sponsor this event? We currently need $2336 to reach our $10,400 goal for this trip to Uganda.
Part of The Everett and Austin Project’s reach is to support the wonderful project created by one of our Ugandan team members called “Sapphire Foundation.” Paul Collins and the Sapphire Foundation currently still need $265 of the $400 needed to process Ugandan government requirements to be a registered charity. They need to do this by September 16. Here is more on Sapphire Foundation…

Please help in any way that you can, including sharing this ministry with people or businesses or churches that you think might be able to help. Any help that you could provide would be most appreciated. Please join us in this great cause to reach the poor and the lame.
Thank you for your consideration. Also, I would be honored to speak in your church about this. Please call me to setup a time, or have somebody from your church call me. Thank you!
In God's love and service,
Tim Gillen
