Open Letter to Editorial Board Members of Health Policy

Dear Editor-in-chief Reinhard Busse , Managing Editors Katharina Achstetter and Reichebner Christoph , Associate Editors? Pedro Pita Barros , Rudolf Blankart , Giovanni Fattore , Patrick Jeurissen , Soonman Kwon, Tracey-Lea Laba, Zeynep Or , Irene Papanicolas, Wilm Quentin , Leonie Sundmacher, Jason Sutherland , Karsten Vrangb?k , Claus Wendt and Editorial Board Members,
We submitted an Eastern European health policy research paper related to a European Commission funded #horizon2020 project to #Health_Policy, the prestigious 爱思唯尔 journal in May 2020. Unfortunately the #peer_review process could not be completed in the last 26 months, we have not even received the first feedback from reviewers.?I hope you agree with me that a more than 2-year long peer-review process is not acceptable for such a highly ranked journal. Therefore, I kindly ask for your support in?
1) volunteering for the peer-review of our scientific manuscript,
2) giving me advice on what can be done to accelerate the peer-review process.?
For your information, over the last years I have sent several enquries to the managing editor and the editor-in-chief. I received typical responses, either 1) a promise to accelerate the review process, or 2) a promise to contact the editor and send me notification to me once further changes have been initiated or 3) no response. However, I have never received updates about any progress or explanations about the reasons for the delayed peer-review, and so I do not have any other options than asking for your assistance in an open letter.?
Your feedback and support would be highly appreciated.?
Kind regards,
Zoltan Kalo?([email protected])??

2 年To cut the long story short, our manuscript with the title of "Prioritization of implementation barriers related to integrated care models in Central and Eastern European countries" has been accepted for publication to #Health_Policy after a 27-month long #peer_review process. I have learned a lot about the operational standards of Elsevier, but the most important learning was the power of #socialmedia. After more than 2 years of non-response from Health Policy I published an open letter to the Editorial Board members of the journal on LinkedIn, which resulted in the publication of our paper in 4 weeks. On behalf of our research team at Syreon Research Institute I would like express my gratitude to all co-authors for their contribution and their patience. The pre-proof version of our paper is accessible here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0168851022002287
Good grief.... I applaud your patience Zoltán Kaló. It may be that 'long delays are exceptions' but that's not a metric of celebration. Shame!

2 年Same happened in our case and unfortunately, we decided to submit the paper to other journal. It is under second review now in less than 3 months.
