Open Letter to Communication Professionals in Canberra

Dear Canberra communication professionals

Many of you may already be familiar with the International Association of Business Communicators IABC whose mission is to connect communication professionals both locally and around the world.?

For the past few months, the IABC Canberra chapter has been toiling away to ensure that IABC’s global vision is also reflected amongst our local communication community. We are thrilled to announce the exciting developments in our Canberra chapter!

Introducing the 2024–2025 Board

My name is Rowena Morais, and last week, I was elected President of the Canberra chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), at the 2024 Annual General Meeting.

I’m excited to take on this role over the next 12 months, and I am honoured to be joined by eight other equally committed and enthusiastic board members on this journey:

I’m encouraged by the breadth of experience and insights this board brings, and I can't wait to see us get started.

The work we do as communicators is crucial in helping organisations achieve their goals. As a professional body, our mission is to build a robust community of communicators. But we also want to help elevate your career and support you in staying ahead of trends and challenges.

Several past presidents of the Canberra chapter have extensive public sector experience, which is understandable given that the Bush Capital is the seat of government for Australia.

However, this 2024–2025 term brings some fresh perspectives, with additional representation from the corporate sector. I believe this diversity of experience can only be a positive thing.?

Tell me what you want

As chapter President, my goal is to ensure that communication professionals receive the support they need and have easy access to people and resources within our community.?

So, I’d love to hear from you.?

How can we assist you through membership, events, and education?? How can we shine a light on your work? How can we drive important conversations on innovation, change, crisis, social impact, and more?

Want to invigorate your professional communicator journey??

Become a member

I’d like to encourage you to get involved. If you are a communication professional, you can contribute by joining committees, attending the events we’ll be organising, and sharing your ideas with us.?

If you’re not already a member, and would like to learn more about IABC Canberra, please message me for a chat.? I urge you to connect with each and every one of my board members through LinkedIn and follow IABC Canberra for updates.

I started my journey with IABC two years ago, taking on a role as the Director of Member Communications. I’m honoured to contribute in a larger capacity now. If any of this has piqued your interest, I would love to hear from you.
