NEWSLETTER HIGHLIGHTS
FEATURED ACTION ???Why the focus on network effects
Research reveals very large and statistically significant effects of friend-to-friend mobilization efforts. 28% of Americans would be willing to advocate if asked by someone they trust; only 2% are participating (YPCCC).?We wouldn't even need all 28%?to tip the scales, so this stat should be energizing!
Who is the 1 in 4 of your friends who would do more than vote this year??Here's a quick text example and here's a?full promo kit!??
This election is becoming about mobilization – get friends in on the action 1:1, 1:2, or by texting a small group!
GOOD NEWS ?? Clean buses, a White House heat strategy, and free solar?

ADVOCACY 101 ?? Climate x Labor Movements
There is a history of environmental-labor alliances, but labor has also been skeptical of the energy transition. In 2021,?United Mine Workers of America?and the Union of Concerned Scientists released a?joint statement?acknowledging the challenge and possible ways forward. Labor and climate are also finding we are stronger together. Read more about that here, then join the Slack conversation!
SPOTLIGHT ?? Writing to voters
Have you started writing letters to voters yet? Lots of folks in our network are getting started on their own or by incorporating the activity into gatherings with friends and neighbors. Get started?here?(it's super easy) and join the?#action-letters-to-voters?channel in Slack to share those pictures of your friends and family writing away, stacks of letters headed to voters in key states, and any tips!
Bonus: will you be at LA Climate Week, NY Climate Week, a neighborhood meetup, or even a happy hour? Bring climate action in the form of letter writing! Eliza Nemser, PhD tried this last week?at a talk called 'Climate Policy Starts at the Polls' and it was a big hit (see the LinkedIn post!). You can help people take productive action and equip them to carry it forward. Just print out letters in advance, or explore the Host a Party playbook for more ideas!
(Reminder: turnaround time to receive a printable letter template averages four hours, but can take up to a few days for approval. More reason to start now!)
CLIMATE CHANGEMAKERS ?? Rest is productive
This is a Climate Changemakers "rest week!" What's that? Virtual Hour of Action teams are off for this prescheduled, bi-monthly time to honor and recognize our labor and contributions to the achievements of the climate movement. Immensely fitting, given that it's the Labor Day holiday, a celebration dedicated to the hardworking spirit that drives progress and to the hard-fought collective efforts that have shaped our society.
So carve out time for something?restorative – whatever that means for you!
Regular scheduling resumes next week.
MONDAY-TUESDAY MOTIVATION????
"We are not spectators. We are the owners. What matters the day after the election is not whether or how early we knew what the outcome would be, but if we knew what the consequences of that outcome would be when we cast our ballots." — ?Mike Podhorzer, political strategist
Half of all changemakers were referred by another changemaker!?Please forward this to anyone in your network who may be interested in joining the movement.
