New Battery for Tonsley
Future Energy Week, saw the turning on of an exciting new battery for the Tonsley Precinct, and plans to further expand are in the future!
"Tonsley Innovation District – already a leader in renewable energy production – is another step closer to relying entirely on renewable energy sources with the installation of a giant battery.
The 4 MWh lithium-ion battery will store excess energy created by Tonsley’s 13,000 solar panels, which generate more than 7,000 MWh per year from the Main Assembly Building roofline and provide around 60% of the District’s current energy needs during daylight hours.
With enough storage capacity to power 200 average households for a day, the battery is the biggest one ever to be installed in South Australia by specialist renewable energy company and Tonsley tenant CleanPeak Energy and will be used to provide energy across the District outside of daylight hours, including the homes of Tonsley Village residents, which feed into the Tonsley microgrid."
