OPDS Park Development, Otter’s Mead Enjoys Staycation Boom
OPDS lodge park development, Otter’s Mead, located in the heart of rural Norfolk, is enjoying the staycation boom through provision of luxury lodge accommodation. This high-quality countryside lodge development is a fantastic example of land diversification and what can be achieved through vision and hard work.
Set in beautiful countryside close to the Norfolk coast, Otter’s Mead offers luxury holiday accommodation in a rural location. Omar Group lodges, all with private hot tubs, provide guests with luxury accommodation to enjoy the surroundings and local area.
It was just three years ago that the owners were looking at ways to generate further income from their land. Having researched various options, they decided to develop a small exclusive lodge park and haven’t looked back since.
Having no experience in the leisure lodge market they enlisted the services of OPDS. Working alongside the owners, OPDS helped to transform their site into a luxury holiday park. OPDS helped the owners to claim grand funding and gave advice on planning, infrastructure, lodge specification, marketing and the overall guest experience.
As the park developed, OPDS introduced the owners to an eco-friendly thermodynamic heating system, an alternative renewable energy source, that helps to reduce heating and gas bills. The lodges (and hot tubs) are all run off this system, which has become popular for its efficiency and reliability, as well as its ability to operate in conditions that are unsuitable for solar powered systems.
OPDS also introduced the owners to leading lodge holiday bookings operator Hoseasons. Hoseasons provided input into how Otter’s Mead could deliver high-quality lodge holidays with features such as hot tubs, pet friendly accommodation and free Wi-Fi, and the owners have since reaped the benefits.
The luxury lodges are available to buy as investment opportunities as well as to rent. Owners can choose and specify their very own luxury lodge, get the benefit of holidaying for a number of weeks a year, then rent the lodge for the remainder. Otter’s Mead manage the rentals through Hoseasons, so owners can sit back and relax knowing their investment is being looked after. The park currently consists of five luxury lodges and there are a number of plots available for new luxury lodges.
Richard Sigsworth, Director for OPDS commented: “From a greenfield site to a successful lodge park, Otter’s Mead is a fantastic example of diversification. With shorter, more frequent breaks away in the UK rather than the traditional two weeks abroad becoming more popular, things can only go from strength to strength for Otter’s Mead and I’m delighted that the park has become such a success.”
Gary Holley, owner of Otter’s Mead commented: “Having researched various ways of generating income from our land, we decided that developing a luxury holiday park was the way to go, but we didn’t know where to start. OPDS have advised from the very beginning and we’re delighted with how successful it’s become in such a relatively short time.”
