Onshoring The New Norm?
During these difficult times I have noticed, through need, that there has been a change in thinking around off-shoring services.
The drive to off-shore services over the past 5 years has been significant, but now the traditional offshore centers are facing significant lock-downs of their own, with the effect that enterprises are hurriedly trying to get these services back onshore.
Are we going to see permanent change to thinking around offshoring and the associated companies bringing offshore resources in country?
There are a number of reasons that may contribute to this change including border closures, political expediency of reducing unemployment, risk mitigation around allowing services offshore again, and automation which will enable a cost effective solution at last to offshoring.
How will these offshore organisations survive? Will we see them competing more and more with onshore models that utilise local resources, or will enterprises revert back to old ways of working in an attempt to keep costs down?
Time will tell!
