Onore al Maestro Vann Molyvann
Amedeo CILENTO
Zaman University Professor; Head of Departments: Architecture; Construction Management.
It is with the deepest sorrow that we record the death, on September 28th, of Vann Molyvann, the father of modern Cambodian architecture.
A great man, an inspired architect, a master for all of us.
Just few months ago, I have brought my students to the American Embassy of Phnom Penh, to see the exquisite exhibition about his works.
There, we have admired his genius and learned a lot about how to match beautifully the characteristics of the Cambodian environment and culture, with the ever changing needs of a modern society.
I always indicate Molyvann to my students as the perfect example for the development of Cambodian architecture.
His works represent a perfect and delicate balance of the most authentic traits of the Cambodian culture, expressed by the use of modern style and technology.
Molyvann was a world-level architect, an ingenious son of Cambodia, but - at the same time - a professional who contributed to the advancement of the architecture globally.
His example and teachings will stay forever in our heart and mind.
