I work with teams in businesses every week, and the overriding insight I get from the time spent with them is this; people are so shit scared of taking any risks, or stepping into their own power, that in many cases they become a shell of obsequious behaviour to achieve the ends of their superiors, often without any sense of their own authentic selves as part of the success of their work. The cost of this on people’s sense of self is too high, and the effect of this on leaders is also highly detrimental, as it often helps to perpetuate unhealthy and selfish leadership practice driven by extreme EGO, which drives self aggrandisement and the diminishment of those under them, as well as a highly exaggerated sense of their true value and worth to the organisations they are responsible for leading, and in some cases grossly misleading! I get people need to survive, and I also understand that fear is something people all suffer from to quite serious degrees, but in the end people can only choose to defend themselves from poor leadership, or organisations run by fear; no one else is going to save you! You alone can save yourself, but always with the enlisted support of a special few who can encourage you and guide you to take a stand where it matters the most! Before you think I am talking about everyone here I am not; but I am speaking of many.....
