Only the Writing Why will get your Book Done

?

Not, Why do they need it...rather, Why do I just have to get this said?

When people first come to me with a book on their mind, questioning whether they should or shouldn’t, when to write or how to publish, it isn’t the what that I dive into with them first—the why is my starting line. As a writer myself, I'm wary of the false spectre of what because I know that a focus on content is how writers end up “blocked” and “stuck”. I know that if you aren't clear (or at least clearly seeking) the why of writing your book, you will NOT be able to return to the document the five thousand times necessary to complete.

If you aren’t able to access the why on demand, and feel it deeply rather than know it sort of, you won't plod through the drafts, the revisions, or the rewrites.

?As creatives, entrepreneurs, thought-changers, and opinion-urgers we can connect over our why. We are all in this for service. A shared mission is community glue.

Sharing the why is how I curated the invitee list for The Story House Members Only, my private club house for clients past, current, and returning. You may not be writing at the same pace, publishing in the same way or have the same timing of outcomes, you may not even know one another’s material, but you sure as hell share the writing WHY.

the burning desire to share the message you first learned yourself and now must share with the world...that's all the reason you need.

If you're building a book and you are driven by the content, or what you think this can do for your platform or your business...you have a much more difficult path ahead than I would wish for you.

Ask yourself why you're doing it every time you open a document, dictate some sentences or hit the page with pen and paper...I can't promise you ease, but I can promise you'll get something you're proud of.

Write on.?

And if you can't answer the question why, then I teach to write 50 pages of nothing. Why? Writing 50 pages of nothing will reveal your why. How? Write everyday as many pages as you can. Write about nothing. Eventually you will have 50 pages. You'll feel proud of yourself. Next, set the 50 pages aside and in a few days you'll be thinking about what your why will be. Your why will jump out at you and it's effect will make you drool. There's one true sentence glaringly up at you as you read through to the end if your reading process. This one true sentence is your why, and also your beginning sentence of your book. Begin there. 5 to 6 weeks later after writing everyday you'll have your first draft of your book..

Patti, that is so true. I usually suggest to people that they not write their story as a book unless they feel compelled to. This usually unearths the ‘why’, which is what will get them through.
