Only Things You Should Know from Keith Boswell

PART ONE - The Must Knows

#1 - Dream On with Luma’s New Dream Machine

Want to see some new IP that I’m video storyboarding through text prompts? I don’t have access to Sora, but I have ten generations a day of five second clips for free of Luma’s Dream Machine . And they’re impressive enough to hit #1 this week.

Here’s something I created using Dall-e recently. It came about as a weird mental image or wordplay I take during my “visual walks” creating AI images. I've shared these on Instagram since 2022 at @keb_genmo .?

Created using DALL-E

Here’s a video Dream Machine made from that image and my prompting.?

Since I logged in last Friday, June 14th, an “Extend” feature was added to my created videos.?

Here's an extended video I made from another image I created yesterday. The whole process took me about 5 minutes total.

Other video generators like Pika are out there. This is the first I’ve personally used to produce something I sent to a friend and said, “WOW!”?

Check it out and start thinking about how you might use it to create unique assets for your work.?I added a few more videos on my newly launched Perceptint YouTube channel . If you create something and like it, send it my way, I'd love to see it.

#2 - I Knew It. Now Research Confirms

Mentally, I still feel like a 23-year-old entrepreneur. That risk-taking spirit still drives an active narrative in my 51-year-old mind. My 28 years of experience make for a great co-pilot, too.?

For many periods in my career (Web 1.0, Social Media & Web 2.0, mobile everything), I was the “younger” guy who’d only worked in digital marketing. That meant I was also a go-to person for older executives who needed a quick upskilling on the latest and greatest.

Without me naming one, you probably remember an incident when a significant brand had a social media failure because an intern had been given the wheel without a learner's permit for the business. The thinking was that because the younger generation was “social and mobile-first,” they would know how to knock it out of the park. It created unplanned opportunities and setbacks for many people trying to figure it out together.?

So, once major blunders or competition showed them a different way, social media policies, training, and governance were developed to ensure these social efforts fit the business.

The Generative AI explosion will create the same blowback in one org as every step of progress ahead in another. This is also why my colleagues and I have the advantage of experience over speed and output. The LLMs have been a fantastic leap ahead, and I’m using them daily, don’t get me wrong. But context is everything, and finally, there’s research confirming it.?

A recent study from Harvard Business School, MIT Sloan, and others found that junior consultants who relied more heavily on GenAI tools didn’t have the experience or technical expertise to make informed risk mitigation recommendations. The more they relied on the tools, the more likely their recommendations were wrong.

The Decoder article in the link has some helpful tables from the study that break down the findings.?

If I relied on what Chat-GPT recommended, I'd follow the advice of every digital marketing "Top 10 hacks" article from the last two years verbatim. You need enough experience to judge the value of the output.

The LLMs have increased the scope of what I can research, output, and deliver for my work. All that usage is filtered through a 28-year lens of experience that helps me throw out, narrow in, and get out of it exactly what I need when I need it.?

What's your take?

#3 - Meta is Going All the Way

Remember everything you posted on Facebook before you knew what social media was yet? 2007…2008. Meta’s AI is hungry, and ALL YOUR POST ARE BELONG TO THEM. (see All Your Base Are Belong to Us for reference)?

AI researchers are running out of human-generated content on which to train their advanced models. One quick advantage the Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp AI teams have is every post, photo, video, message, and contact you and I have ever given them. Meta is seeing how Australia will react to this news before confirming globally that none of us can opt-out.?

I know that’s a lot of personal, family, and friends content. Now multiply that by at least 2 billion users and, “BAM, next level LLAMA launch ya’ll”

Ready to talk to all your exes that live in Texas? Or the vintage politics of 2014 to 2018??

Will Meta’s future chatbots sound more like friends, family members, co-workers, or parents? I’m not sure which one I’m ready for, if any.? Remember friends, to watch your Terms and Conditions; we’re all signed up in this together. :)
