The only thing that matters in goal setting

The only thing that matters in goal setting

There’s only 1 thing that really matters in goal setting.

I’ve read about and tried all kinds of goals: SMART goals, OPA goals - you name it. (Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound) - (outcome, purpose, action).

For me, what I’ve learned, is the only thing that really matters with goals is this: is it personal? Do you really want it?

Because if it’s not personal; if it is not anything you really care about - it doesn’t matter. That’s been my experience. Example: Writing more has been a goal of mine for a long time. Like, for YEARS. And finally, I said “f*** it, I’m writing!”, and started this journey I’m on today (writing 30 things in 30 days). My goal of writing more has more or less been the same every year. The only real difference this time around is I made it personal. That’s it. I said to myself “f*** it, I’m writing!”

SO the next time you’re writing down your goals, instead of listing a bunch - try focusing on those things that actually really matter to you. To who you are in that moment. Because if it ain’t personal, then I think it ain’t gonna stick.
