The Only Person Who Is Holding You Back Is You

Have you ever felt like something is holding you back from achieving your goals? It's a common experience, but the truth is, the person holding you back might actually be you. Often, we know this deep down but find it difficult to accept.

Recognising the Problem

You might unconsciously hold yourself back from success. The search for your "true passion" or "true purpose" can be an endless and frustrating journey. You might have tried various jobs or activities only to find that none of them stuck. The excitement faded, and consistency was elusive.

In every job or activity, there seems to be someone or something making you uncomfortable or impeding your progress. This could be a colleague, the work environment, or even the tasks themselves. It's easy to play the role of the victim, blaming external factors like tiring training days, unsupportive people, or an unfavorable environment.

The Cycle of Quitting

This cycle often leads to quitting. You start with high ambitions, but as challenges arise, your initial enthusiasm wanes, leaving you with regret and self-doubt. You daydream about being successful in the things you gave up on, imagining how good you could have been if only you had been consistent and disciplined.

The Moment of Realisation

At some point, you might find yourself asking, "Why do I end up like this?" Is it because of external factors, or is it something within you? The answer often lies within. The more you fail, the clearer it becomes that the real obstacle is yourself. You were the one who didn't show up, who blamed others for your laziness and procrastination, who didn't work hard enough to overcome fears.

Taking Responsibility

Realising that you are your own biggest obstacle can be frustrating, but it's also empowering. It means you have the power to change. Instead of seeking a "true purpose," focus on self-improvement. Plan your days with the goal of becoming better, respecting, loving, and listening to yourself more.

When negative thoughts arise about how others treat you, redirect them toward finding positive solutions. If you procrastinate because of your environment, take immediate action.

The Power of Internal Change

Excuses are endless. You can always find reasons not to act, but those tasks will remain until you face them. Change starts from within. By working on your internal obstacles—hatred, laziness, negativity, lack of discipline, resentment, procrastination, and inconsistency—you can transform them into action, love, positivity, discipline, and consistency.

Overcoming the Victim Mentality

We often think others are holding us back, but the true barrier is usually ourselves. Playing the victim feels safe but is a trap. The comfort zone can be detrimental if we stay in it too long, avoiding challenges and responsibilities. These challenges are not enemies but allies that help us grow and strengthen ourselves.

Taking Action

Planning and envisioning the future are important, but execution is crucial. Lack of action is rarely the fault of others; it's usually because we let fear and resentment control us. Start by identifying why you're not taking action. Separate what's within your control from what's outside it.

The number one reason holding us back is often within our control. Work on that. Face it head-on. Once you do, you'll realize that the only person holding you back is you. Embrace this understanding, and you'll find the strength to move forward, taking control of your journey toward success.
