Could you share some memorable experiences and stories from the early days of establishing the SSI-SCA open-end fund?

SSI-SCA is the first open-fund "child" of SSIAM. Its inception brought a lot of hope from us, the founders of the fund, with the expectation of providing investors with a truly effective and sustainable product. The fund's name, the SSI Sustainable Competitive Advantage? Fund, clearly reflects our beliefs and expectations.

The 26th September marks the 10th anniversary of the SSI-SCA fund, which has grown significantly. This date reminds us of over 10 years ago when the Vietnamese stock market didn't even have open-end funds yet, and regulations for them were still being drafted. Looking back, we can see how far we’ve come.

Today, SSI-SCA is a familiar name for many investors and consistently ranks among the few equity funds with the highest returns in the market. However, the fund started with a modest number of investors and had a lower trading frequency (once a week). It took over two years of persistence in the market, with a lot of effort in expanding distribution channels and investors, for it to break out of its initial scale and continue growing ever since. From a fund size of just 113 billion VND in 2014, the fund's current size has surpassed 730 billion VND, with over 26,000 investors holding fund units.

26,000 investors is an impressive number. What do you believe are the key factors that keep investors committed to the fund long-term?

The most important factor for retaining investors in an investment fund is whether the fund can deliver effective returns and maintain that sustainably over time. As a Vietnamese saying goes, " Only on a long journey do you know a good horse." With an annualized return of 15% per year over 10 years of operation, I believe the SSI-SCA fund has achieved that for investors, which is very meaningful to us.

Currently, the average holding period for domestic investors in investment funds is not long, but I believe that will change. Just imagine if an investor had held SSI-SCA fund units since its inception; their assets would have grown effectively without needing to do anything. The only thing investors need to do is to choose us (smiles).

The fund management team plays an important role in operating and ensuring the fund's performance. How is the SSI-SCA management team structured to adapt to changes in personnel?

?Specific personnel involved in the fund's operations may change over time. However, we have built a support system so that any personnel changes do not significantly disrupt the fund's operations. What is important is that we always understand that investors are entrusting their assets to us, and we have the responsibility to manage that capital as professionally as possible.

What can investors expect regarding the development of SSI-SCA in the near future?

We have been focusing on enhancing the customer experience throughout the journey of owning, holding, and trading fund units, so that customers can invest as easily as possible with SSI-SCA. Currently, purchasing SSI-SCA fund certificates is very fast and simple. We have developed the SSIAM OTG trading app with a smooth process from account opening to placing buy orders, requiring only a phone and a chip-embedded ID card to execute quickly.

After 10 years, we are satisfied with what SSI-SCA has delivered to investors and have high hopes for the fund’s strong development in the future. We hope that the SSI-SCA fund will always be investor’s partner to prosperity.
